Yesterday was a fiasco

Yep. I blew it. 2 over after 6 holes and bogey my way in. So much for playing to my potential.

Side note: putting is deadly. I can almost feel the ball and its tendency to roll either way. It goes a long way to improve my confidence putting.

Drives off the tee very spotty. Need to focus on what I need to do (execution) and worry less about the end result. Let’s see if that sort of mind set will stir my confidence.

Could not play De Bell today which was a disappointment but doing a lot for work so that could be a good thing since that keeps my proverbial lights on.

No golf. Family.

Great day at the beach. Happy Birthday to my favorite BIL ( brother in law). You may be my only BIL but you’re the best! Happy Birthday!

Still thinking about my swing and my putting stroke. Is this the sign of a man obsessed? Methinks, YES!

Still a great day and looking forward to the evening.

39 at Harbor.

Just 9 holes – 1 birdie, 1 double and two bogeys. Putting is better. Driver was a little wild but took medicine and made sure second shot counted. Did not allow another bad shot to follow a bad shot.

I focused more on hitting my marks and suddenly I was sinking putts. Even ball strikes were cleaner and crisp. Left indecision and instead just picked how hard I had to hit the ball and where.

The key was focusing on executing my swing and keeping the putter club face square to the target. Even with other clubs the premise worked.

Gonna have to see if I can make this happen with more consistency.

Harbor Park.

Just played 6 before the pace and time constraints were so desperate we left before we could finish.

Some highlights. Doubled the first hole because I rushed on a out I expected to go in but did not. I parred the handicap 1 hole with a chip to 1 foot. I birdied the par 5 right after. Par. Bogey. Parred next hole a long uphill par 3 to a blind shot with the pin hiding behind some trees.

Not happy but definitely pleased with myself. Feel like I could have bounced back if there was only more time. But that is the case for almost anything.

Still. No regrets.

Basketball practice.

Alex is a lot better than he thinks he is. And although he may not want to play he is going to have to. Why? It’s a commitment we made and although he didn’t make the commitment he must follow through.

It’s a matter of character.

Shot an 80 at Chester.

It was a relatively quick round, about 4 hours with no one really in front or behind; just us, a 5-some and a lonely single stuck behind us. I think he broke off from the foursome playing behind us.

Short game was working. Able to get close.

Putted really well considering 5 holes were punched. No notice on Greenskeeper.org so I sent a message there. Tee boxes are flat. Fairways lush-ish. Greens a little slow for my taste but that is what you get. Greens were receptive to high shots. The collar around the greens typically stop your ball dead but today they had the nice sort of bounce I like. Putting on the greens were bouncy and slow. Missed several birdie attempts. Managed to get pace down quickly and soon putts were sinking.

Managed 25 putts. 7 FIR and 6 GIR. Actually took notes and although I didn’t feel like I played particularly well but the numbers do not lie.

Just laughing at myself here. Missed breaking 80 today. I can think of a handful of times I managed that feat. I typically shoot low 80’s consistently even during tournaments.

Side note: I seem to lose focus every few holes. Need to come up with a mental note to focus on executing my shot. Going to have to ponder that one. The one difference today though; I was simply picking targets and focusing on making that shot happen. Perhaps that is the key. Takes pressure off score. Focus on set up then just execute. I do it then move to the next shot. It seemed to work until I forgot what I was doing.

Back to the drawing board. Time to work on my routine.

I also lost my range finder. I couldn’t have left the cart at the barn for more than 10 minutes. Apparently they already cycled the cart to be used again. Cart guy doesn’t clean the carts he just sends them out again. Sucks. Time to get me another range finder. Anyone have any suggestions?

Working with greenskeeper.org

Developing a new product has always been my passion. It’s coming up with the idea. It’s determining the parameters and executing the plan. Everything about developing a product excites me.

The fruit of those late night brainstorming sessions is GK Plays Tee Times. Check it out here: http://blog.greenskeeper.org/shop/.

The premise is simple. GK has for the past 12 years been a beacon of great golf course reviews. Members and site visitors alike are are treated to informative golf course information from our flagship golf course reviews to maintenance and aeration alerts. So essentially we know when conditions are at their best. Why not couple that knowledge with our online community and treat them to a terrific rate as well. Hence the GK Plays Tee Times were born.

Play a golf course in its best condition at a grate rate; then tell us about it.

It’s exciting. So now who wants to play some GREAT golf?
